Hello

Thanks for showing some interest in a new art project called ‘It’s my life, don’t you forget’, which is being made with people that use the services of the Beacon, the staff and a group of artists and mental health activists. It begins in January 2024.

It feels like times have been hard for a while now. Mental health support can be difficult to access. Services stretched. Staff stretched. Things not feeling so safe for those in challenging times and those trying to support them.

A group of artists that live in and around Thanet are making something around this… exploring questions like..

What is safety? Where do we feel safe? How can we be safe together?

This is your invitation to contribute to this art process.

Whether you use services at the Beacon, work at the Beacon, maybe even support others that use or work at the Beacon.

We are hosting a number of art making sessions at the Beacon. This is the easiest way to get involved. The dates are below. But you can also email or WhatsApp us if you want to find a different way to be involved.

Who is doing this?

This process is being led by an artist and mental health activist called ‘the vacuum cleaner’ – who lives in Margate and is a service survivor.

He is working with students from a local art school called Open School East.

What will it be like?

The art making sessions will be different each week. They will be very informal and fun. Each session we will share the plan for the afternoon and introduce ourselves. No one will have to do anything they don’t want to. Most sessions will be at the Beacon, but because they’re redecorating, some will be at the brilliant Arts in Ramsgate.
